BEAST HQ

Los Angeles, CA
2,500 SF New Construction
Completed 2024

Situated in the vibrant neighborhood of Melrose Hill, BEAST HQ is located just blocks away from a variety of lively restaurants, small businesses and art galleries.

Single story residential bungalows, multi-family housing and low-rise buildings also define the surroundings. The design is reflective of the rich and complex urban fabric in which the building is located and respects the scale of the residential neighborhood while departing from the typical material palette.

The first floor boasts the main entry, a private 400 SF rentable office space, a kitchenette and restroom, as well as a separate space for a future machine shop.

The second story is fully dedicated to THinc, and consists of a large light-filled, open studio, a kitchen, a conference and sitting area, a bathroom and copy and materials room.

The roof is outfitted with solar panels supplying energy to a massive back-up battery, available and ready if needed, and multiple car chargers. The exterior cladding is corrugated metal, requiring minimal to no upkeep.

Planters for water filtration required by the city, double as planting beds for native Manzanita. The hardscape is composed of concrete pavers and gravel while two pepper trees provide generous shade for the occasional work break and Pixie, the dog. The building is highly energy efficient, requires little maintenance and is fire hardened, all appropriate characteristics given the current climate crisis.
